Why is this important?
Charitable giving supports a wide variety of organizations, including those that provide essential services to the community and people in need. The level of giving shows residents' willingness to invest in programs and organizations serving the community.
How is Dutchess County performing?
In 2013, the average charitable contribution in Dutchess County was $1,152, above the $1,059 for the region, and below the $1,313 in the state (excluding NYC) and $1,267 in the nation. Dutchess' average contribution was down 21% from about $1,455 in 2002, a similar decline to the region. Giving at the state and national level has also fallen, though at a slower rate (16% and 11%, respectively). Dutchess County has consistently had the highest charitable giving in the region.
