Change in Total Jobs
What does this measure?
The growth or decline in total jobs, shown as a percentage gain or loss from the previous year.
Why is this important?
Job growth is a key indicator of economic health and vitality and reveals whether and by how much an economy is expanding.
How is Orange County performing?
Total jobs grew 2.5% in Orange County from 2013 to 2014, greater than any other county in the region, the state (excluding NYC), and the nation. The rate is more than double Orange's increase in total jobs from 2012 to 2013 (1.2%). 2014 was the fourth consecutive year in which total jobs increased in Orange County. Orange County had the best performance on this measure among the three counties of the Mid-Hudson Valley from 2002 through 2014.
Notes about the data
County employment is reported by place of work, not place of residence. Data for this indicator are expected to be released in the fourth quarter.
