Why is this important?
Charitable giving supports a wide variety of organizations, including those that provide essential services to the community and people in need. The level of giving shows residents' willingness to invest in programs and organizations serving the community.
How is Ulster County performing?
In 2013, the average charitable contribution in Ulster County was $769, well below the $1,059 in the region, $1,313 in the state (excluding NYC) and $1,267 in the nation. Ulster's average contribution was down 24% from about $1,017 in 2002, a similar decline to the region. Giving at the state and national level has also fallen since 2002, by 16% and 11%, respectively. Ulster County has consistently had the lowest charitable giving in the region.
